Video: President Obama honored Dallas Mavericks at White House on Monday

Obama joked that his favorite team, the Chicago Bulls, will be the champs next year.

The Dallas Mavericks took a quick break from regular season play to go to Washington, D.C., to receive congratulations from President Barack Obama for their first NBA Championship win.

The Mavericks defeated the Miami Heat for the series win. "This was a remarkable run, a great victory," Obama said. "It's too bad that next year, it'll be the Chicago Bulls here."

Mavericks player Dirk Nowitzki proudly held up a Mavericks jersey that said "Obama" on the back, No. 23. Obama joked, "You know ... I was [No.] 23 before [Michael] Jordan."

He also said the team has "a heart that's the size of Texas."
